this 17-minute film, Matthew edits, films and co-creates a film with his
art therapist and speech /language therapist based on the award winning
childrens book, Paddle to the Sea. After three years of interdisciplinary
work, this film highlights Matthew in his element, confidently emoting,
verbalizing, and creating a film where he engages the audience through
psychopuppetry, filmmaking, and narrative story telling.
Yo Yo Man

In this 25 minute film, Matthew edits, writes, films and co-creates a film
with his art therapist
and speech /language therapist. He creates a board game for the book Minn
(part of his curriculum for reading) and then writes his own narrative
story “Yo Yo Man”. Matthew learns the use of metaphor, simile in creative
writing. After three years of interdisciplinary work, this film highlights
Matthew in his element, confidently emoting, verbalizing, and creating a
film where he engages the audience through narrative story telling.

The Belief Art Therapy Assessment

The Cognitive Art Therapy Assessment (CATA) and the Belief Art Therapy
Assessment (BATA) designed by Horovitz, allows the viewer to glean an
understanding of how to conduct the CATA and the BATA both as an administrant
and clinician. The videos take the guesswork out of what materials to
use and how to work with these projective, assessment batteries. The CATA

a nine-year-old boy, is saddled with an inability to express both receptive
language and process auditory cues. After several years, the art therapist
and speech / language therapist work in tandem to enhance Matthews
cognitive and emotional repertoire. Matthew improves when he is allowed
to build his expressive language via storytelling, psychopuppetry, computer
programming and video therapeutic techniques. This delightful film highlights
the recovery of this young boy as he works toward self-expression, recovery
via the art materials, and finding his inner voice. 17 minutes.
Chris,
A Story Retold

Eighteen years before Art Therapy treatment, Chris portrays as an emotionally
disturbed aggressive adolescent. This young woman, who has since undergone
hormonal replacement to pass as a man, is then filmed over a period of
a year and a half. In the context of this treatment, Chris undergoes family
art therapy, phototherapy, and individual therapy in order to sublimate
aggressive tendencies and work through sexual identity disorder and depression
regarding residential placement. This 14-minute film reframes Chris
story of sexual identity disorder, instead focusing on wellness and operating
from the heart.
